Success In Action: Tina Martin Personal Histories

When I first read in the newspaper that an organization called SCORE was offering to give anyone with a business idea, ten minutes of their time I was intrigued. Sitting down with a SCORE volunteer was my first chance to talk about my idea with someone who had solid business expertise.

Raising a young family while working as a professional writer, researcher, editor, and interviewer, I was ready to retool my professional life. My work had taken me to interviews with all kinds of people, young and old, in all kinds of circumstances and in many different parts of the world. Each story moved me, and each person interested me deeply. I was convinced that each person’s story was unique and fascinating and should be recorded.

Success In Action: Marketing Gateways

It was Friday October 13, 2006 when I got a call that nearly floored me. My employer informed me that I had been ‘down-sized’ because we had not made our projections. During the days and weeks that followed I went through a range of recurring emotions. As time passed, my attitude began to change and I began to enjoy not having to answer to a boss and be a slave to the almighty “Blackberry”, on call 24/7. Yes, it was a great pleasure being out of the rat race! But, finally, reality set in; “I was minus a steady pay check!” A steady paycheck was something I had become accustomed to my entire working life. Now, I was suddenly without it and the thought of not having one scared the daylights out of me.

Success In Action: SchoolVenture

SchoolVenture set out to be an innovator in the field of middle and high school education. The founders recognized that the educational system was acting slowly to respond to the wakeup call expounded by Federal studies and guidelines which had concluded that students were inadequately prepared to compete in the American workforce, and that change in institutionalized education was long overdue.

Rockland SCORE, located in Spring Valley, New York, is staffed with volunteers from a variety of business backgrounds and are dedicated to assisting clients start their own business or helping solve problems for those already in business.
